Things tend to slow down a bit on the resort after Labor Day.  The kids are back in school.  The resort is a bit quieter.  The pace is even more relaxed.  For folks who enjoy nature and the outdoors, it’s the perfect season to get out into the woods to do some hiking or on the lake for a little fall fishing.

One of our regular guests who has come to our resort for as long as we’ve been here (more than 20 years!), loves to hike.  A few years ago, I asked him if he could put together something on hiking for our website.  He was glad to do it.  So – one season, he meticulously kept records of where he hiked, how to get there, in some cases where to park your car, how long of a hike it was and if there was any level of difficulty (most are not difficult at all!), and what you generally would see as you hiked that trail.  He compiled all of it and emailed it off to us.  It is now our “hiking” section on our website –  https://www.loonpointresortmn.com/hiking/  As you read about his favorite Northern Minnesota hiking spots, you’ll agree that Itasca County is the perfect place to enjoy hiking!  Fall is a particularly perfect time of the year to do so (few bugs, cooler days, less humidity).  If you enjoy the Minnesota fall colors, plan your trip closer to the end of September or very early October.  This tends to be the peak fall color time in Northern MN.

If you enjoy bike riding – check out the Mesabi Bike Trail.  This paved trail (no motorized vehicles allowed) stretches from Grand Rapids, MN to Gilbert, MN.  There are several places not far from Loon Point Resort where you can park your vehicle and get on the bike trail.  For more information on the bike trail – go to www.mesabitrail.com.

Whatever your favorite fall activity is, plan to take some time off and relax in one of our comfortable cabins.  Come for just a few days . . . or stay a full week!
