Minnesota Family Resort

Loon Point Resort is especially suited for a Minnesota family vacation. Our nine cabins include classic 2 and 3 bedroom cabins of the 50's, a privately situated lakehome build in the 70's, and three new full log 3 and 4 bedroom cabins. You'll enjoy the scenic views of crystal clear Wasson Lake in northern Minnesota. Our Minnesota family resort is the only resort on the lake and is situated on 53 acres of forestland. You won't hear the highway here!

Family Fishing

Wasson Lake offers great fishing for panfish, northern pike, and smallmouth and largemouth bass. The 450 acre lake has great structure for fish habitat with numerous bays and four islands. Even on a windy day, you'll be able to tuck into a bay or behind an island and enjoy fishing. If you don't have your own boat, you can rent a resort boat and motor – complete with add-ons like swivel seats, trolling motor and portable fish finder. Or take the entire family out on our new pontoon . . . do a little fishing and then take a swim while anchored in a bay.

Kids on a Water Tramp

Our family resort has an extensive playground with a Rainbow Play System (safely situated where the children will be away from the water, yet in view of most of the cabins), large lawn area for playing ball or other yard games, a sandbox, basketball, volleyball/badminten, and horseshoes. And the campfire area at the beach is perfect for star gazing and roasting marshmallows at night. Be sure to bring the graham crackers and chocolate for making s'mores!!

Great Family Activities

For some variety, there are plenty of nearby activities and attractions for the family. In addition to Grand Rapids with it's movies, shopping and restaurants, you can visit the Forest History Center, Scenic State Park, Hill Annex Mine State Park – all forty-five minutes or less from the resort. A variety of hiking trails are in the area as well as biking – not only near the resort but also on the paved Mesabi Bike Trail. Other sightseeing excursions include the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary in Orr, Tower-Sudan Underground Mine, and the Wolf Center in Ely. And if there's some golfers in your group, The area boasts 4 championship 18 hole courses as well as several very affordable 9 hole courses (including one in Bigfork).

You're sure to enjoy the wildlife in the area. An eagle nest is on Island 1 – in view of the resort – so you're sure to view the eagle soaring and picking up fish. Loons are plentiful and the calls will relax you in the evening. As you walk through our woods, you're sure to see many birds. Chipmunks are plentiful and very friendly. Occasionally guests catch a glimpse of mink, fox, otters, and on a rare occasion, a wolf, bear or moose. Deer are, of course, much more common.

Loon Point Resort is open all year so you can enjoy fall hunting and outdoor winter recreation. The fall colors are spectacular, especially on the National Scenic Byway driving north from Grand Rapids.
